Ramon Tribulietx did something no other coach in the history of National League football in New Zealand had managed during the 2011-12 campaign - guided his team through an unbeaten premiership phase of the season.
National League football first commenced in this country in 1970, and 42 years on, Auckland City FC, under Ramon's stewardship, won eleven and drew three of their fourteen games to further augment their standing as New Zealand's premier club.
They followed up that feat by winning the Oceania Champions League Grand Final, winning four and drawing one of their six group games in that competition before downing Tahiti's AS Tefana home and away in the two-legged final, winning 3-1 on aggregate.
Their reward for that is a place in December's FIFA Club World Cup Finals in Japan, where they will look to improve on their seventh placing at last year's Finals, their loss in that tournament - to Japanese professional outfit Kashiwa Reysol - the only one which Tribulietx oversaw in just under an entire calendar year, a period which included a 3-1 victory over eventual Australian A-League premiership winners Central Coast Mariners in a pre-season friendly between two of Australasia's leading football clubs.
