Betsy Hassett
The Energizer bunny of the Football Ferns' midfield unit, Betsy Hassett has just made her 100th appearance in all matches for the senior national side, and is very much looking forward to not just the Olympic Women's Football Tournament, but her new life after it.

JR:     Betsy Hassett, how much are you looking forward to this?

BH:     "Very much. I've been waiting a long time to go to my second Olympics. I'm really, really excited".

JR:     How have your preparations gone from being away from the team for a fair chunk of the time?

BH:     "Pretty good. I've been playing in Germany, and loved the football there - lots of technical stuff. I've been in New Zealand for the last month, and it's been good to get along and gel with the team again".

JR:     And negotiating a transfer. How did that come about?

BH:     "We played Holland earlier in the year, and I got in touch with the coach at that time, and we had a chat. They said they might be looking for a midfielder, and everything worked out from there. I've got a Dutch passport as well, which was handy - I've got family over there".

JR:     How much are you looking forward to playing
for Ajax Amsterdam?

BH:     "So much! I'm excited to go and live in Holland and develop again as a player, and play for Ajax, one of the biggest clubs in the world - that's the great thing.

"My last full season with a club was at Manchester City, in the 2014 FA Women's Super League. Since then, I've had half-seasons at Amazon Grimstad in Norway, and Werder Bremen. So I'm really looking forward to starting afresh, and hopefully doing well with Ajax".

JR:     Looking ahead to the USA, Colombia, France and beyond, what strengths do you believe the Football Ferns have which can see off the immediate competition and progress deep into the tournament in Brazil?

BH:     "It's going to be a challenge - we've got a tough group. Straight off, USA, which is going to be really hard, but we've played against them many times before and been preparing for the past month or more. We'll be ready, and just play our best".

JR:     No doubt you're looking forward to catching up with all your other overseas-based team-mates?

BH:     "Always. It's so fun. We're always so excited to see each other, and we've been friends for years now, so it's such a good time when we get together. I'm looking forward to it".
