I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Hope Solo.
Not only 'cause she's a genuine class act twixt the sticks, but also for the way she took her punishment after speaking out against the USA's then coach at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup Finals, re her non-selection during same, something which arguably cost the USA back-to-back titles.
Personally, I thought she was shafted at the time, and didn't deserve the treatment she got as her form didn't merit it. But speaking out as she did took balls - a reflection of her character, and it says a lot that the whole episode was a significant factor in the USA's decision to change their coach after the Finals.
Hope soon earned her place back on merit, and I, for one, was well pleased to see her timely saves, particularly in the final against Brazil, contribute greatly to the USA's Olympics triumph in 2008.
One of the game's genuine characters and major babes - let's be honest, she's a bona fide "hottie"!! Not to mention a really cool chick, and a top notch 'keeper. More power to her.
