Big Wins In Season's First Cup Ties
by Jeremy Ruane
Big wins were the order of the day in the first round of Kate Sheppard Cup ties, none bigger than Te Kotahitanga's 17-0 rout of Stop Out at Mazengarb Park, a match in which the prolific Vanessa Addy struck seven goals.

Madison Beetham netted four goals while Emma Howes helped herself to an eight-minute hat-trick on a day the home team recorded a scoreline which is among the twelve biggest victories in the thirty-season history of the competition.

Papakura City also went on an Anzac Day scoring spree, bagging a baker's dozen at Waiuku's expense, 13-1 the final score at Massey Park. Joyce Barroso led the way with five of City's goals, while Hannah Reddy struck a hat-trick on a day Tayla Yakas netted a brace of goals, with Ashley Cowley's penalty five minutes from time earning the home team's biggest cheer of the day.

Uni-Mount Bohemian Celtic proved far too strong for Bay Olympic, cruising to a 6-1 win at Olympic Park, where Jess McKimm's second half hat-trick supplemented a first half display in which Rosie Hartwell scored twice - and missed an absolute sitter! - and captain Maggie Jacques once, after she'd hit the crossbar with another attempt.

The ever-willing Chantay Robinson was gifted an equaliser by Uni-Mount goalkeeper Alex Vernon, but the visitors, whose ranks are graced by a handful of players with Lotto Northern Premier Women's League experience, always had too much in hand for their opponents in a tie which pitted together two teams whose respective parent clubs, Blockhouse Bay and Mt. Wellington, contributed significantly to the establishment of the women's game in Auckland.
