Built in Adelaide, she is powered by two 1350hp English Electric 8RK diesel engines, producing a service speed of 12 knots.
She has one 35 tonne crane, and can carry 61 TEU, including 24 reefers, plus 1950 cubic metres of breakbulk space. Her deep tanks are capable of holding 440 tons of cargo oils.
During her time as "John Burke" and "Niugini Kula", the oil and cooling pumps would fall off the engine entablature because the retaining studs broke on a regular basis. Eventually, electrically-driven independent pumps were installed and the engine pumps were scrapped! (Thanks, Tony Skilton).
She largely traded between Australia and Papua New Guinea for the bulk of her life, until her lone visit to Onehunga as "Niugini Kula". When she next called three years later, she was owned by the Cooks Islands National Line and operated under the name "Ngamaru III" - refer to that ship.
She was broken up at Alang in May 2006.
