Built by Bow, McLachlan & Co in Paisley in 1929 at a cost of $80,000, she was launched on 12 April by Mrs Matia Buffey and completed her maiden voyage to Nelson under the command of Captain Pearson.
A twin-screw collier, she was specially built for taking the ground at tidal ports such as Tarakohe and Onekaka in Golden Bay, and working the bar harbours of Westport, Greymouth and Wanganui.
Her working gear was designed for heavy lift cargo and the full complement of grabs she carried. This meant she could discharge a full cargo of coal at Tarakohe then load up to 600 tons of cement for Wellington - she carried those cargoes to most ports around the country, including Onehunga.
During World War Two she was employed on minesweeping duties in the Waitemata, after which she continued to serve Anchor Shipping well until 1958, when she was sold to Hong Kong interests and towed there from Nelson by the tug "Cabrilla". She was broken up a year later.
