Built in Bowling, she was powered by one 1120hp six cylinder British Polar diesel, producing a service speed of 11.75 knots. She was crewed by fifteen.

She has one 10 tonne derrick, three 5 tonne derricks and two 3 tonne derricks.

She was the last ship built for the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company, and transferred to Holm Shipping in 1969, before a further transfer of ownership, to Union Shipping, took place three years later.

One of her first cargoes south was of aluminium dinghies for distribution to South Island consignees. And in late 1973 she began a monthly service from Jackson Bay, 200 miles south of Hokitika, to Onehunga, carrying timber for the Auckland market supplied by Carter Merchants Ltd.

She was disabled off Cape Brett in April 1974 by an engine room breakdown while on a voyage from Fiji with a cargo of sugar. "Holmburn" towed her into port for repairs.

She was laid up in Dunedin at the end of that year, and sold to Singaporean interests in 1975, the first of a handful of customers she was to serve upon leaving our shores.

She was arrested in Madras on 23 June 1986 for smuggling gold bars and other contraband, and was sold by auction five months later, only to spring a leak in Madras outer harbour on 1 September 1987 and become a total constructive loss.

She was broken up in Madras in May 1988.
