Built in Glassgow by Mackie & Thomson, with Supervising Engineer John Brown overseeing developments, she arrived in Nelson in October 1909 and went on to serve Anchor Shipping for all of her 41 years - great service from a vessel which cost $22,000 to construct.
Initially put to work in the coal trade, she wasn't giving value for money, and Anchor were quite keen to get rid of her less than three years after taking delivery of her.
But there were no takers, so she was given a refit and put on the nightly Nelson - Wellington run under the command of Captain W.A. Wildman senior. It proved to be the making of the ship, which was later transferred to other Anchor services, mainly those to Onehunga.
She struck Mangere Bridge while berthing on 24 August 1946, and last visited the port in November 1949. Within a year she was no more, having been broken up by Wells Brothers of Wakatahuri in the Marlborough Sounds.
