Built by D.J. Dunlop in Port Glasgow, this George Gow-designed steamer went into operation for the Northern Steamship Company straight away, serving them well until being broken up on 28 October 1932.
In between times, she served on the east coast initially, a period which included a grounding on the Opotiki Bar on 18 March 1909, and two losses of her propeller, near Tauranga on 30 August 1912 and near Thames on 29 July 1913.
She was switched to the West Coast two years later, making her first call into Onehunga in 1915, a port she served for a decade. During that period, she suffered minor damage on the Manukau on 20 April 1922.
