Built of wood in Dunedin by Stevenson & Cook Engineering, she was intended for use by the US Navy as a powered lighter in the Pacific during World War Two.
The war ended before her completion, so the NZ Government's Marine Department were the beneficiaries of a handover from the War Assets Realisation Board, and promptly chartered her out to Holm Shipping.
She served Holm for three years, during which time she made a solitary call at Onehunga. In 1950 she was sold to New Caledonian interests, but was lost with all hands in August 1953 on a trip from Mare to Noumea, having been reported as being dangerously overloaded and listing to port before departure.
